Can anyone recommend me a good mechanical pencil or fineline pen brush for photoshop? Lately I've been reading a lot of manga where the artists have been using a very scratchy sort of line and I really like the look of that.

Something along the lines of this is what I'm after:

I would just use the brush, only tiny with max hardness and turn the flow down.

I did actually have a go with a number 3 hard round last night - it's pretty close, but I don't think it's quite there yet.

Haven't tried adjusting the flow yet right enough. Sadly I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to photoshop settings.

Thank you :) Bar a couple of small things I want to go back and fix, I'm quite pleased with how it turned out. Reminds me of the look the art had in Hotel Dusk.

Small version of the finished piece, finally got round to sorting the eyes. I'll probably stick a larger version up on deviantart at some point, I'm as yet undecided whether to colour it or not.

Reviving this as I've finally found a brush setting I quite like. It's not exactly the ultrafine line I was after originally, but the standard hard round brush with pen pressure on size jitter, flow jitter and opacity jitter feels very comfortable to work with. When I'm drawing on paper, my pencil lines tend to be messy and this setting seems quite forgiving when I'm not going back to erase all the rough marks.

(If the image is too big, I can resize it)

Awesome, I love the eyes. You've got a very delicate style.

Thank you :)

It actually took a few goes to get the eyes looking right. I'd been trying to come up with a new way of doing female eyes for quite a while now and I finally hit on this demonstration video (link) that rather grabbed me. I'm not copying his ones exactly, but it was a good place to start.
